Airbnb Now Offers Private Chefs With Massages As It Revamps App

Airbnb has unveiled a redesigned app that allows users to book high-end services such as personal trainers, massages, and private chefs, as the company continues expanding beyond its core short-term rental offerings.
“Hotels are known for their services, Airbnbs for their space—now we’re combining the best of both worlds,” said CEO Brian Chesky in a statement.
The announcement comes shortly after the company indicated that U.S. bookings might slow due to economic uncertainty driven by President Trump’s unpredictable trade policies.
Since its launch in 2008, Airbnb has hosted over two billion guests, though it has also faced regulatory hurdles, with several cities enacting restrictions or bans on short-term rentals.
The newly introduced luxury services will initially roll out in 260 cities, with prices starting at under $50 (£37.57). These services—ranging from spa treatments to professional photographers and makeup artists—are also available to users who aren’t staying in Airbnb accommodations.
The app’s updated “experiences” tab, first launched in 2016, now offers a wider selection of custom tours and activities. Another new addition is the “originals” tab, featuring exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime experiences like playing beach volleyball in Rio de Janeiro with Olympian Carol Solberg or spending a Sunday with NFL star Patrick Mahomes.
These hotel-style amenities reflect evolving traveler preferences, says Gary Bowerman, director of the travel marketing agency Check-in Asia. “Travelers today want to personalize every aspect of their journey—not just transportation and lodging.”
Anastasia Oriordan, a luxury travel consultant, adds that the desire for rare, off-the-beaten-path adventures is growing. “So many people have already seen and done a lot—the standard for what counts as a ‘unique experience’ keeps shifting.
